I Read the News Today, Oh Boy
The economic paradigm of free (i.e., near-zero marginal cost digital reproduction of content via the internet) is already changing everything, whether the landed media gentry like it or not. The New Print itself is sufficient evidence that the revolutionary process of grinding down mountainous barriers that began with Johannes Gutenberg was unwittingly completed by the Department of Defense.
Some people have begun to realize that there is no choice but to embrace the free; others cling to the past but with a shiny new face, hoping the glare distracts long enough to pick a few pockets. Advertisements of old no longer pay the bills and media look for someone to pick up the tab, while the herd is taking its own reins in its multitudinous hands.
We are left with the choice to step boldly into our own future or dig in our heels, fearing that what it is we have to offer ourselves is what we paid for it: nothing. But in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
