Think Your Gmail Is Secure?
August 31, 2009
I’m guessing a few journalists probably regret blithely using Gmail at this point. If Google responds to the court’s subpoena and discloses the journalists’ IP addresses, it will have taken another step forward to assist “libel tourism” actions. Libel tourism is especially dangerous because it allows any party wealthy enough to institute a coercive lawsuit to use the unconstitutional power of the state to silence someone expressing their free speech rights.
File this one under the growing stack of answers to: “what could Google really do, even if they wanted to, with all my private information?”
