News Round-Up
If brevity is the soul of wit, this is a witty look at the decade in newsworthy and semi-newsworthy one-liners (with convenient YouTube citations).
My favorite is the Onion’s take on 9/11:
“Holy Fucking Shit.”
On that note, another great wrap-up and review of the year in media errors and corrections wisely notes that the trend of the year is Calling Bullshit (aka Fact Checking). We do often learn best from our mistakes, after all. The Correction of the Year is courtesy of the Washington Post:
A Nov. 26 article in the District edition of Local Living incorrectly said a Public Enemy song declared 9/11 a joke. The song refers to 911, the emergency phone number.
This collection of the decade in pictures by The Big Picture is also a worthy review of how the news operates. They’re fairly intense, so I won’t reproduce any here (and risk the copyright infringement), but I suggest you take a gander for more impact than the few dozen words of description on this blog can do.
